Le terrarium

Quand la broderie murale devient haut-relief
Occupants of this terrarium, we raise our heads towards this enormous flower, or is it a cabbage, or a pile of leaves? The bas-reliefs of garnet petals and buds appear like pieces of jewelry. The thermoformed leather sheets are naturally mobilized by a breeze. You could almost hear the wrinkling of the leaves. We are embraced by this lush yet disturbing textile environment.

This immense vegetation is a pretext.
A major object of the Decorative Arts, the plant is represented in the form of patterns shaped in low relief in cabinetwork, flat on the printing boards or in marquetry, textured in ceramics, both light and generous in the featherwork, stoic and fleshy in marble sculpture…
The impetus of the Terrarium lies in the creation of a textile environment, a dreamlike jungle that should challenge the observer, signify to him that the embroidery is neither fragile nor flat. To achieve this, I redefined my design protocol. The movement of the body and the gestures of each technique have been disrupted to be able to raise the material in high relief.
The ambivalence of peaceful moments of execution to other more physical ones is felt in the confrontation of soft, shiny materials with other pungent, dull ones. The bursting of buds, round and generous seeds surprise by their size. On closer inspection, the directions of the yarns, bobbins and lamés appear like the painter’s brushstrokes. From these entanglements of materials are born the pictorial composition that gives meaning to the Terrarium.
